As our bathroom remodel was winding up, we authorized Gary to proceed with painting the bedroom on a Time & Materials basis. The renovation proceeded in parallel with completing the bathroom. The quality of renovation is excellent. The schedule seemed a little longer than expected, but not enough to cause a problem. We did have an issue with one part of the billing. Although it appeared at first that we couldn't communicate on this issue, to his credit, Gary persisted, and eventually the issue was settled to our complete satisfaction.

Very well as I had contracted with them about a year ago to do a downstairs bathroom remodel due to a leak and turned into a remodel of shower, tile and painting. also painted family room, re-rocked with cultured stone an oversized old fireplace. That project turned out great. This project was rather large also but more time and materials type of work. The attention to detail was extensive as they had to match the new crowns to existing in kitchen and in living room over entertainment area, but they did a great job! Looks like it has always been there. Extensive painting and it looks great. Other small projects but it all turned out very well.. Since this was based on time and materials there was a small issue with time which was an issue on added dollars, however it was corrected without issue. Overall excellent to work with, price could be a bit high, however.... I have spent over 50K with this company on projects and would recommend them for future work.

We have also had the WD do some minor remodeling in our kitchen, and other interior painting on other occasions. Each time we were very satisfied. Pricing is a bit more than the cheapest you will find, but the great quality and lack of hassle with low bidders is worth it to me. I would avoid jobs where the WD is directly sub-contracting to another company though, the pricing gets too high in my opinion. If their guys are doing the work (most of the time) you can count on a great job.

I think that they did a really nice job. In fact, I was very interested in having them do some more work for us, including, painting walls and trim, and installing new interior doors. I think they do a great job, if you can afford them.

How much does house painting cost?

Typical investment

$1,500 - $22,000+

Bellevue home painted in modern gray with white trim and hardwood floors

House painting cost depends on how much of the home is being painted, whether the work is interior or exterior, and how much prep is needed before paint goes on. Exterior projects usually cost more because access, height, surface exposure, and prep are more labor-heavy.

  • How many rooms or exterior surfaces are included
  • Interior painting vs. exterior house painting
  • House size, height, and access
  • Surface material and condition
  • Prep work such as patching, sanding, scraping, caulking, cleaning, or priming
  • Whether ceilings, trim, doors, cabinets, or other detail work are included

After seeing the house, we can provide a painting estimate based on the actual scope, surface condition, and prep required.

House Painting FAQs

How much does house painting cost?

Many projects fall somewhere around $3,000 to $18,000+, but a full house repaint job can range widely. It depends on whether it is interior or exterior, the size of the home, and how much prep is needed. Smaller interior repaints tend to land toward the lower end. Larger homes, exterior work, high ceilings, detailed trim, and heavier prep like patching, sanding, caulking, or stain blocking push the cost higher.

How much does interior painting cost?

A rough planning range is about $2 to $6 per square foot, but the real number depends on number of rooms, ceiling height, number of colors, trim, doors, and wall condition. If the project includes drywall repair, sanding, caulking, stain sealing, or ceiling work, the price usually rises.

How much does it cost to paint the exterior of a house?

A full exterior repaint often ranges from $5,000 to $15,000+ depending on the size of the house, the condition of the siding and trim, and how much prep is needed. Homes with peeling paint, damaged caulking, taller walls, difficult access, or more detailed exterior trim usually cost more than straightforward repaints.

What time of year is best to paint a house?

For exterior painting in Bellevue, the best time is usually late spring through early fall, when temperatures are moderate and there are longer dry stretches. Paint manufacturers usually want dry surfaces, lower humidity, and temperatures within the product's approved range. Many Benjamin Moore products can be applied from 35°F to 100°F. Sherwin-Williams says exterior work is safest when surfaces are dry and warm, with many products performing best around 50°F to 90°F.

Can you paint a house in October?

In Bellevue, sometimes yes, but it depends on the forecast. Interior painting is usually fine in October. Exterior painting is more conditional. In the Seattle area, October gets progressively wetter, with the chance of a wet day rising from about 28% at the start of the month to 50% by the end. Sherwin-Williams also warns that fall exterior painting gets risky when daytime temperatures recover but nighttime temperatures drop low enough for dew or curing problems.

Can you repair damaged walls and surfaces before painting?

Yes. The Wall Doctor handles the repair work that often needs to happen before painting, including drywall repair, patching, crack repair, stain-damaged areas, surface prep, caulking, sanding, and priming. Instead of painting over the problem, we fix the surface first so the final result looks better and holds up longer.
